HOW A BONE DENSITY SCAN HELPS
A DEXA BONE DENSITY SCAN PROVIDES A T-SCORE AND Z-SCORE, WHICH COMPARE YOUR BONE HEALTH AGAINST YOUNG HEALTHY ADULTS AND PEOPLE OF YOUR AGE. THIS INFORMATION ALLOWS YOUR DOCTOR TO:
Diagnose OSTEOPOROSIS OR OSTEOPENIA
(low bone density)
Estimate your risk of future fractures
Monitor bone health over time and track response to treatment
Guide personalised advice on lifestyle and medications
THE FRAX TOOL IS AN INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED CALCULATOR THAT PREDICTS YOUR 10-YEAR PROBABILITY OF
FRACTURE. ADDING A BONE DENSITY MEASUREMENT FROM A DEXA MAKES THE CALCULATION MUCH MORE ACCURATE.
EVERY BONE DENSITY SCAN PERFORMED AT DEXA LONDON IS REPORTED BY A UK-BASED CONSULTANT RHEUMATOLOGIST – SPECIALISTS IN BONE AND JOINT HEALTH.
All reports are completed within the UK — never outsourced abroad Reports are clinically detailed yet accompanied by a patient-friendly summary If required, results can be shared directly with your GP or specialist

FAQs
For bone density scans, DEXA London accepts internal referrals from Dr Emil Gadimali. Body composition scans can be booked directly.
It assesses bone mineral density (BMD) to identify osteopenia, osteoporosis, and fracture risk.
All scans are carried out by trained radiographers at 3Beam Diagnostic Imaging Centre, at 86 Harley Street, London, W1G 7HP.
Your DEXA images are sent securely to Medica plc, where a UK-based consultant
rheumatologist reviews them and writes a detailed clinical report.
Once the report is ready:
We’ll email you your results, including your T-scores and clear explanations.
A copy can also be sent to your GP or specialist if you wish.
This means your results are interpreted by a specialist in bone health, not just a machine
printout.
Yes. As part of your appointment, we use your medical questionnaire and DEXA bone
density results to calculate your FRAX fracture risk score.
This shows your 10-year risk of major osteoporotic and hip fractures and helps you and your
doctor decide whether treatment or lifestyle changes are recommended. We include your
FRAX score in your written report.
